Workshops & Courses

The Academic Success Center offers credit-bearing courses, a workshop series, and one-time workshops on topics important to academic success. Our Co-Directors, Assistant Directors, and professional staff have over 50 years of combined experience teaching and leading workshops at Texas A&M.

Courses

We offer three credit-bearing courses:
  1. STLC 101: Application of Learning Theories to College Studies
  2. STLC 102: Career Awareness
  3. STLC 289: Special Topics.
You can register for STLC courses through the regular registration process in Howdy.  Some courses or seats in some course sections may be reserved for students in targeted programs.
If you have questions about an STLC course, contact Dr. Joel McGee (
jmcgee@tamu.edu).

Workshops

We offer two types of workshops:

Commit to Success Workshop Series
The Commit to Success workshops meet twice a week over a three-week period. Topics include learning theory and learning models, goal setting, motivation, learning and study strategies, and time management. Classes are structured so that you complete an activity designed to apply active learning strategies to your current classes. If, at the end of the series, you have attended all six sessions and completed all activities, you will receive a certificate of completion. There is no cost for attending Commit to Success workshops. See below for information on the schedule and registering.
Wednesday Workshops
Wednesday workshops are offered each Wednesday of the fall and spring semesters. We offer two sessions of that week's workshop over a variety of topics related to academic success such as time management, self-regulated learning, text-book reading, note taking, test preparation, and memory. Workshops are open to all students at no cost. See below for information on the schedule and registering.
