Mantra & Meditation

We recognize that every transfer students' experience is different, however, we know that many transfers face some of the same challenges as they transition into the university. This blog was created for transfers by transfers to share TIPS and insight on having the best semester you can at Texas A&M University.

    I am a firm believer that practices like mantra and meditation can uplift one’s spirit and energy.  A mantra can be anything from an encouraging phrase to a sound.  I’m sure everyone is familiar with the common mantra “Om” or “Aum”.  By simply repeating this tones to yourself in a calm harmony it’s possible that you enhance your physical, emotional and mental state of being.

    Personal Anecdote: There are times when we all look back on our past and are reminded of a moment that changed our lives forever.  For me, this moment was when my dad died.  I was only 15 at the time and, although I grew up knowing that he was sick, it’s something I struggle to deal with every day.  At the time, I was a freshman in high school and took a month off to deal with my emotions and convince myself that school was worth continuing.  To this day, I don’t always understand why my family was dealt the cards we were.  However, instead of dwelling on the negative things in my life I try and look past them and move forward. My mom has instilled in me a mantra of “this too shall pass”.  No feeling is permanent and every situation will get better.  I know now that there is not an obstacle I cannot overcome in my life, if I continue to believe that this too shall pass..
