Wanna Get Fit and Learn a New Language?

We recognize that every transfer students' experience is different, however, we know that many transfers face some of the same challenges as they transition into the university. This blog was created for transfers by transfers to share TIPS and insight on having the best semester you can at Texas A&M University.

    Two apps that I use literally everyday are Duolingo and Couch to 10K. Both of these apps are free but each have completely different functions.

    There could be numerous reasons you want to learn a new language and Duolingo has your back. It is a completely free app that has multiple languages for you to choose from to learn. Currently, I am using it every day so I can brush up on my Spanish and be semi-prepared from my study abroad trip this summer. The activities are fun, it’s never boring and the illustrations are great. You get to practice reading, writing and speaking. The app even tracks your progress and lets you know what “percentage” of fluency you are at. I highly recommend this app to anyone. You could learn a new language with just five minutes of practice a day!

    Couch to 10K is an amazing app that literally takes you from the fitness of a couch potato to someone who can run a 10K. I don’t know about you, but I am not in as great as shape as I was in high school. Then, I probably could have run a 10K no problem…. Now, not so much. It uses interval running in order to get you up to the speed and endurance you need to be at. It only asks that you run three times a week. That’s it! And each running session is roughly 30 minutes, give or take what your assigned workout is that day. Couch to 10K does charge you money after the first week, but the same company has another app called Couch to 5K which I believe is completely free! So, if you’re not up for 10K, I highly recommend the 5K. The company also offer half and full marathon training. In order to do these, you must be able to complete a 10K, hence my recommendation to take on the 10K app. I recommend you try this out to see if maybe these apps are what you need to give you that push to get in better shape!

    These two apps have been my go to apps for a long time. They have been on my phone forever and I use both of them almost every day. I could not recommend two better apps.
