The Power of Introverts

We recognize that every transfer students' experience is different, however, we know that many transfers face some of the same challenges as they transition into the university. This blog was created for transfers by transfers to share TIPS and insight on having the best semester you can at Texas A&M University.

In this TED Talk, author Susain Cain discusses introverts and the unique qualities that they offer. Being an introvert, myself, this TED Talk was affirming and comforting. Rather than constantly being told to be extroverted, Cain uses this talk to explain why introversion is okay and how it benefits the world—even if others can’t always appreciate it.

Cain primarily focuses on introversion in education and the workplace, while also discussing influential people throughout the world who were introverts—Eleanor Roosevelt, Ghandi, Dr. Seuss, and Steve Wozniak. She explains that solitude is “crucial” to both creativity and developing “transformative leaders.”

As she wraps up her talk, she discusses three points from which to move forward:

    1. Stop the assumption that group work is the only way to success
    2. Teach kids to work on their own
    3. Don’t be afraid to show what is in your suitcase.

If you are an introvert and need a pep talk or if you’re an extrovert and want to learn more about those that require solitude, I’d definitely recommend watching this.
