Want To Be a Tutor?

Academic Success Center Tutors hold drop-in tutoring sessions to assist students one-to-one or in small groups, as needed. ASC Tutors help students learn how to learn. They teach course concepts and effective study habits; they don't check homework or give answers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate at Texas A&M University
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills
  • Receive a grade of B or better in the selected subjects taken at the University (certain exceptions may be allowed on a person by person basis for transfer credits)
  • Be available to work in the evening and possibly Sunday evenings
  • Be available to work around 10 hours per week

Responsibilities

ASC Tutors are responsible for providing a welcoming and safe environment for students who need academic assistance. Their primary responsibilities are:

  • Attend all scheduled tutoring hours
  • Assist students in a drop-in and appointment-based environment
  • Participate in periodic training (usually at the beginning of each semester)
  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Perform additional administrative duties, including program development and marketing
